How'd we get here?

I always wanted to be a teacher and make a difference in someone's life in the same way my teachers had done for me. I wanted to give them confidence and help them see the opportunities ahead.  Then I experienced two teacher's strikes. Seeing the bitterness from the teacher's side and witnessing how broken the education system was killed it for me.  Now what?

Watching TV one night I was captivated by the breaking news coverage of the TWA Flight 800 crash. I immediately knew I had to work in media. After high school, I attended Humber College's Radio Broadcasting Program. A quick two years later I started working in radio and that's where I stayed for 20 years.

I worked at radio stations in Barrie, Hamilton, St. Catharines, and Toronto; wearing many hats along the way: from hosting radio shows and anchoring news to being a talk radio producer, producing live sporting broadcasts, a music director, promotions team member...yep I pretty much did whatever was asked!  I've worked in a variety of formats including country (both new and classic), talk radio, oldies, hit music, and adult contemporary.  I’ve had the privilege of producing everything from breaking news and live sports events to election specials. I’ve also gone beyond the studio, reporting from red carpets at events like the CMAs in Nashville and the Juno Awards.

Burned out and seeing the writing on the wall about my future in the business (more like non-future) I left radio in 2022 and started my own company, Becky Coles Media. I've stepped into the role of executive producer, guiding projects from the spark of an idea to the final product, ensuring everything stays on track and hits the mark, provide PR services, and have essentially come full circle back to teaching as I help people like you understand media and consistent brand promotion.

(And some more background)

I had a brief dream of working in theatre so I have spent years both on stage as an actress and behind the scenes as a stage manager. This experience has been a labor of love, giving me a front-row seat to the magic of live performance, which probably explains how I've ended up connected to live music throughout my life.  Whether hauling gear as a roadie for family and friends, acting as a stage manager and emcee for awards shows, or promoting bands and coaching live performances, I've been in the thick of it, supporting the music community from the ground up.
